Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence: Protective Fencing Pty Ltd
For half a century, Protective Fencing Pty Ltd has proudly stood as a cornerstone of Australia’s wire-based manufacturing industry. From humble beginnings to becoming a leader in high-security fencing, our journey has been one of innovation, dedication, and family legacy.

A Legacy Built on Craftsmanship
The Gibbens family story began in 1907 when Mathew George Gibbens started his apprenticeship in Australia’s first spring-making factory. With his hands shaping steel and his vision shaping the future, Mathew set the foundation for generations to come. His son, George Gibbens, transformed the family business through his groundbreaking invention of the Gibbens machines, which automated the spring-making process and revolutionised the industry. George’s ingenuity was the key to the family’s success. By 1937, the family launched its own spring manufacturing business, and by the 1950s, Gibbens machines were making their mark globally.
In 1975, the formation of Protective Fencing Pty Ltd marked a significant milestone. At just 17 years old, Craig Gibbens, the third generation of the family, took the bold step of starting Protective Fencing Pty Ltd. With youthful determination, he led the company to buy its first chain link fabric fencing machine and embark on its journey in wire fencing production.
