For more than five decades, Profence has supplied Australian-made fencing systems to sectors where quality, reliability and compliance are non-negotiable. As the business has grown, so have the expectations of its customers. Project timelines have accelerated, site conditions have become more demanding, and the pressure to maintain Australian Standards has only increased.
To meet those expectations head-on, Profence expanded its operations to include its own powder coating division: Protective Powdercoating Pty Ltd. Bringing this critical finishing process in-house strengthened quality control, improved turnaround times and ensured consistency across all components.
Today, powder coating is not an add-on service. It is a strategic capability that reinforces Profence’s promise to deliver dependable, Australian-made fencing solutions from start to finish.
As part of this commitment to high-quality and compliant surface finishing, Profence is a proud member of the Australasian Institute of Surface Finishing (AISF), ensuring its coating operations remain aligned with current industry standards, testing methods and best-practice training.
Why powder coating was a natural extension of the business
Profence has manufactured fencing systems since 1975, supplying chainwire, 358 anti-climb mesh, palisade, steel mesh and custom steel security solutions across major infrastructure, utilities, commercial and industrial projects. Powder coating became a strategic next step in strengthening end-to-end manufacturing control.
By integrating powder coating into its operations, Profence reduced reliance on external providers and the variability that can accompany outsourced finishing. Bringing the process in-house enables the team to:
- Control quality to Australian Standards, every time
- Shorten lead times and respond faster to project schedules
- Match coating performance to site and environmental conditions, including coastal and corrosive zones
- Maintain production efficiency during large-scale or fast-turnaround projects

A unique advantage
Integration of coating operations also introduced another capability: the manufacture of wire-formed powder coating hooks. These hooks are essential for efficient, secure and repeatable coating runs.
Producing them internally ensures each batch is purpose-designed for product dimensions and workflow. Few in the industry offer this, reinforcing Profence’s commitment to precision, consistency and reliability.
Meeting customer expectations with skilled staff and consistent standards
Their expertise is a defining strength of the powder coating division, supported by ongoing training and industry-aligned best practice.
As part of this ongoing standards commitment, Profence maintains active memberships with AISF, the national body for surface finishing standards, training and industry collaboration.
AISF membership ensures Profence remains aligned with the latest coating advancements, testing methods and compliance expectations.
Membership delivers practical value:
- Staff have access to current training, keeping skills sharp and relevant
- The business stays informed on industry developments and regulatory updates
- Quality benchmarks are actively upheld across production
In high-security and high-performance applications, this is not optional. It is essential.
Behind the technology is a team of highly experienced powder coaters, many of whom have been with the division since it was first established.

Supporting the broader industry through collaboration and capability
Profence recognises that the strength of Australian manufacturing and coating comes from cooperation as well as competition. AISF creates a platform for shared technical knowledge, ongoing professional development and the raising of industry wide standards.
This culture of collaboration lifts more than coating quality. It strengthens safety, reliability and long term performance across the sector.
