PROMAX™ 358 Mesh FAQs
1. What does “358” mean in 358 fencing?
358 refers to the imperial measurements: 3” x 0.5” x 8 gauge. In metric terms, that’s 75mm x 13mm apertures with 4mm wire.
2. Is it different from standard mesh fencing?
Yes. 358 mesh is purpose-built for high-security environments. Its tight aperture, with openings less than 10mm, is classified as anti-climb and is nearly impossible to grip or scale.
3. How does 358 mesh compare to chainwire or palisade fencing?
358 mesh provides significantly higher security than chainwire or standard welded mesh. Its tight anti-climb aperture and robust wire diameter make it extremely difficult to cut, climb, or penetrate. Unlike palisade fencing, which relies on visible deterrence, 358 mesh delivers both visual transparency and physical protection, making it ideal for surveillance-driven sites where both visibility and security are critical.
4. Where is 358 mesh used?
Used in prisons, power substations, defence sites, water treatment facilities, and critical infrastructure. It’s often part of SoCI compliance strategies.
5. Can it be combined with other security features?
Yes. It can be combined with fence spikes, razor wire, electric fencing, or intrusion detection systems for layered protection.
6. Does it need specialised installation?
Yes. Due to its rigidity and weight, 358 fencing is installed using heavy-duty posts and brackets. Accurate levelling and tensioning are key.
7. What finishes are available?
Premium Quality zinc and aluminum alloy coated LifeMax® wire or powder-coated (typically black – other colours upon request) for extra durability and a professional appearance.
8. Can PROMAX™ 358 mesh be supplied in stainless steel?
Yes. For environments where corrosion resistance is critical, PROMAX™ 358 mesh is available in stainless steel. This option is ideal for coastal, industrial, or harsh environments where superior durability is required. Learn more about our PROMAX™ 358 mesh stainless steel here.
9. When should I choose 358 mesh over other fencing types?
When security is non-negotiable. It’s the go-to for anti-climb, and long-term security investment.
